About Lorena Vargas

Attorney

Roots that shaped her work

Guided by her family’s immigrant journey, Attorney Lorena Vargas is dedicated to helping others navigate the path forward.

Lorena Vargas built her career on a deeply personal understanding of the immigrant experience. Born and raised in Los Angeles to immigrant parents who later became United States citizens, she grew up witnessing both the opportunities and the challenges that families face while navigating the U.S. legal system. Those early experiences shaped her belief that every person deserves fairness, dignity, and meaningful access to justice.

Driven by this commitment, Ms. Vargas pursued higher education with a focus on social justice and advocacy. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she double majored in Sociology and Women’s Studies and minored in Women, Culture and Development. She later received her Master of Arts from San Diego State University, where her thesis explored the Violence Against Women Act and the profound impact domestic violence can have on immigrant communities.

Her passion for serving immigrant families ultimately led her to pursue a law degree from San Joaquin College of Law, where she committed herself to immigration law and advocacy for vulnerable populations.

Ms. Vargas began her career working in nonprofit organizations as a BIA Accredited Representative, assisting underserved communities. She later transitioned into private practice, where she expanded her work representing individuals and families in complex immigration matters. Today, she leads her own firm, continuing her mission of guiding clients through some of the most important and life-changing legal processes they will face.

Throughout her career, Ms. Vargas has successfully represented clients in family-based immigration petitions, adjustment of status applications, waivers, DACA renewals, applications for Advance Parole, Parole in Place, Citizenship and Naturalization applications. She has also been a strong advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, helping them obtain protection and stability through VAWA self-petitions and U Visa petitions. In addition, she has represented individuals in removal (deportation) proceedings, including bond hearings and removal defense.

Ms. Vargas is particularly passionate about protecting immigrant youth. She regularly represents young clients in state probate and family court matters to obtain findings necessary for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), helping vulnerable youth secure lawful protection and a path toward stability.

Beyond the courtroom, Ms. Vargas remains committed to empowering the community through education. She frequently provides community presentations and informational workshops on current immigration laws so individuals and families can better understand their rights and options.

Rooted in her family’s immigrant story, Lorena Vargas has dedicated her career to one mission: ensuring that immigrant families have an advocate who will stand beside them with knowledge, compassion, and unwavering determination.
